Welcome to our blog with commentary on all manner of intellectual property law issues. This blog is for opinion and commentary. Recent posts are found to the top right on this page.
This blog is not intended to be a sourced of detailed information patent or trademark law, or ‘how to’ do something in those fields. Detailed factual information is found on the canadian-patent.ca and canadian-trademark.ca sites and their respective blogs which is accessible using the “Detailed Information” links on the bottom right hand side of this page (and every page on this site).
On this blog we will comment on a wide range of innovation and patent, trademark and copyright issues. We expect to concentrate on three themes that will distinguish this blog from others:
- A global perspective, and in particular a focus on IP matters as they apply to small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with global ambitions
- Emphasis on the busness of intellectual property, and especially trends and changes that make securing IP globally more efficient and cost-effective
- Emphasis on making money from and with IP and how that relates to business innovation. We believe that IP is a business tool, and as such, needs to be protected, enforced, valued and monetized with a clear view of the costs, risks, and potential return on investment. We also believe that IP is a subset of innovation, and that real customer value comes from innovation not IP per se.
